A £15 million building improvement programme for health centres, GP surgeries, pharmacies and other local family health facilities has been announced by Scottish health minister Susan Deacon, as a step towards creating a national one-stop shop for health and social care services.

In making the announcement, Deacon said: "As health professionals work to break down outdated professional barriers, we are literally knocking down the walls that have in the past held back a 'one stop' approach to care. This round of funding will in particular look to link funding between health, social care and voluntary agencies where it will lead to better joint working."

The additional money brings to £48 million the resources now being invested by the executive in 69 local community health facilities around the country - many offering joined-up health, social and voluntary care, under one roof, in some of Scotland's most deprived communities.
