A homelessness charity has slammed a Dutch travel company's plans to charge business executives £450 for a two-night "rough sleeping experience" in Glasgow, followed by a night in a five-star hotel, as part of a corporate team-building exercise.
In a counter stunt to highlight the travel company's ridicule of street homeless people, Shelter this week asked members of the Scottish parliament to give a donation to "a member of the Scottish business community" who, complete with pin-stripe suit, bowler hat and briefcase, was begging outside MSP offices in Edinburgh.
"Today's event is a light-hearted dig at an idea that's badly misplaced," said Shelter Scotland's director Liz Nicholson. "Every year thousands of people end up on the streets. For them there is no five-star hotel waiting." All the money raised by Shelter's stunt will be given to homeless people in and around the Scottish parliament buildings.
