Home helps in Glasgow are to be balloted on industrial action after negotiations broke down between the council and the workers' main trade union, GMB.
The union claims that the council has unilaterally imposed a cut in overtime payments, in breach of its own rules. The result of the ballot of the 2,500 workers will be known early this month.
A spokesperson for Glasgow Council said: "Steps have been taken to put in place whatever is necessary to maintain the service."
