Home helps in Glasgow have called off the threat of strike action after their dispute with the council was resolved.
The trade union, GMB, which represents the majority of the 2,500 home helps employed by Glasgow council convened a ballot on strike action last month after claiming that negotiations on the council’s unilateral withdrawal of overtime payments had collapsed. Last week it was revealed that 85 per cent of home helps had voted in favour of strike action.
The GMB had planned a 24-hour strike tomorrow (Wednesday) as the beginning of a campaign over the Christmas period. At the eleventh hour, trade union and employer representatives resolved the dispute, and the threat of industrial action has been withdrawn.
