Protestors are gathering in the Borders as the full council meets to debate £5.9 million cutbacks in next year’s budget, the most severe financial setback in the local authority’s history.
The problem has been created by a £4 million overspend on the education budget. While the council’s proposals are not yet revealed, social work and education are expected to bear the brunt of most of the cutbacks.
