Electronic tagging better than remand

Only 15 per cent of visitors to Community Care's website oppose the government's plans to tag 12- to 16-year-olds who have been granted bail. This week's question asks: Should the New Deal for young people be more focused on people with particular problems which prevent them finding work? Head of the National Audit Office Sir John Bourn says the New Deal scheme should focus on people with particular difficulties such as mental health problems, or drug or alcohol dependencies (see News, page 15).
