Children living in disadvantaged communities must be entitled to the same opportunities as any other child, Barnardo's told politicians last week.
Unveiling a new report based on an evaluation of a five-year pilot scheme in eight communities across the UK, the children's charity called on government to provide more long-term funding for community regeneration and to encourage the private sector to provide support for local initiatives.
Barnardo's chief executive Roger Singleton said: "Our research has found that there can be no quick-fix solution to long-term neglect."
