Staff at Wandsworth council took strike action on Wednesday following the dismissal of a social services finance officer.
Sarbani Mazumdar, who was also a union worker, was dismissed from the south London council last month for committing a "serious work related offence".
She says the allegations are not true and believes she was "victimised" as a result of her work as branch secretary of public service union Unison. She admits she was active and vocal in this role, particularly about the proposed reduction of home care services that could have resulted in job losses.
But the council insists Mazumdar was not dismissed because she was a union official.
"She was treated in exactly the same way as any other member of staff," the council spokesperson said.
Mazumdar will now wait for her appeal expected at the end of May.
