The government has launched the second phase of its national recruitment campaign for social workers.
The first phase launched last year, which cost £2 million, prompted 14,000 people to call for more information about a career in social work. The target for the whole of the three-year campaign is to increase the number of applicants for social work courses by 5,000.
Many of the calls came from people working in the financial and banking sectors who want to enjoy a more "rewarding" career, a department of health spokesperson said.
The latest phase, which is backed with £600,000 of government funding, will involve advertising on radio, and in the national and regional newspapers.
