The New Deal programme for young unemployed people has found work for more than 50 per cent of clients in rural and semi-rural areas, says a new report.
The report by the Economic and Social Research Council says the New Deal's effectiveness in tackling youth unemployment was very much dependent on local labour market conditions. It calls for more job opportunities in depressed areas and better incentives for employers to retain New Deal recruits.
