A woman who was jailed for 15 years last November for killing Lauren Wright, her six-year-old stepdaughter, has had her sentence cut at the Court of Appeal.
Tracey Wright was sentenced for the manslaughter of Lauren, who died after a blow to the stomach in May 2000.
But three judges decided last week that she should only serve 12 years. Lord Justice Kennedy said that Wright had taken on a child in addition to her own children. "She was, on any view of the reports, a lady of limited ability who would have found that task extremely burdensome," he said.
He added that Wright had not received any support from Lauren's father Craig Wright, who is serving a three-year sentence for neglect.
