Stockport Council has launched a domestic violence policy for its 10,000 staff who may be either victims or even perpetrators of violence in the home.
Chairperson of the council's domestic violence forum Viki Packman said: "We decided to develop the policy because it seemed silly to have advice and policies for service users and nothing for employees."
She estimated that between 900 and 1,100 of the council's staff are experiencing domestic violence.
A section on the consequences of carrying out violence is also in the policy, a summary of which was distributed to all staff last month.
