The government's neighbourhood renewal unit has promised to generate new sources of data to help understand the changing nature of deprived communities and assess the impact of the National Strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal.
The move is outlined in the NRU's research and development division's draft research strategy for 2002-4.
It also pledges to sharpen the neighbourhood focus of other sources of data, and analyse data on delivery in health, crime, housing, and employment targets to gauge other government departments' contributions towards achieving the aims of the national strategy.
