This week’s deadline for registering managers and providers of children’s and older people’s homes with the National Care Standards Commission has been abandoned by the department of health.
The decision is caused by the delay in the Criminal Records Bureau carrying out police checks, meant only half the 20,000 providers and managers would have been able to register with the NCSC by the 1 August deadline.
Without registration, homes would have been forced to close. Under the change, however, homes have until they are inspected by the NCSC throughout the year to receive their completed check and to register.
New providers and managers will still need CRB checks before they are able to start operating.
