The Disability Rights Commission and the Commission for Racial Equality have welcomed the Single Equality Bill, launched for consultation this week.
But both organisations continue to have concerns about the creation of a single equality body, which would be introduced under the bill.
Attending the launch of the two-month consultation on the bill, the CRE's deputy chairperson Beverley Bernard said the organisation would welcome a single commission but only "subject to certain principles and standards in relation to scope, powers, effectiveness and resources".
A spokesperson for the DRC said: "We also have reservations about a single equality body, which the bill would introduce, in terms of the priority and resources accorded to disability and the extent of its powers."
