Lancashire Council will become the first local authority in north west England to host a live webcast when it broadcasts its social services committee meeting this week.

The committee will discuss the fate of the council's 32 residential care homes. Proposals include closing all of them down eventually or making half provide non-residential services to older people (news, page 13, 8 August).

A council spokesperson said the first live webcast was about making local government decision-making more accessible.

The webcast is due to be shown at www.lancashire.gov.uk on Thursday 12 September at 10.30am.
