New government figures show that black and minority ethnic people are nearly three times more likely to be homeless.
Of 30,560 households who were accepted as homeless by local authorities between April and June this year, 6,730 were from a black or minority ethnic background.
The government has allocated £17 million to be spent on making 500 homes available this year for homeless families with children living in bed and breakfast hotels in London.
The statistics show that at the end of June, 81,170 households were living in temporary accommodation, with the number of households in bed and breakfast hotels rising by 5 per cent since March.
