A father of two baby boys has been sentenced at the high court in Edinburgh to seven years in prison for their culpable homicide.

Ian Metcalfe was convicted last month of killing Kyle, aged 11 weeks, in 1988 and Dylan, aged five months, in 1996, but sentencing was delayed until now. He was also found guilty of assaulting and asphyxiating a third child in 1989 who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Dumfries and Galloway social work department admitted mistakes were made in the way the case was handled.
