Shelter urges more personal approach

Homeless children should receive direct support from a dedicated worker to help minimise their distress, a new report from homelessness charity Shelter has urged.

Where's Home? says that establishing contact with child and youth organisations can help reduce homeless children's feelings of isolation and occupy their time at weekends and during holidays.

The report calls for school staff to have greater awareness of the impact of homelessness on children and for school age children in temporary accommodation to automatically receive bus passes to reduce disruption to their schooling.
