A Welsh council may spend £130,000 to build a secure unit for an 11-year-old boy with a history of arson and inappropriate sexual behaviour, writes Alex Dobson.
Anglesey council in north Wales is understood to be considering proposals that would mean the boy, who is considered to be a risk to himself and others, could be housed on his own in a unit surrounded by a six-feet high fence.
The boy has been living in a secure unit in Leeds that currently costs the council’s social services department around £3,500 a week. It is understood the council has looked at other options for the boy, but that as part of his rehabilitation programme is now looking at locating a suitable property on Anglesey that is isolated, and where they can provide the boy with a high level of supervision.
The proposals contained in a council report, have the backing of the boy’s solicitor, but a council spokesperson said the authority had no comment to make.
