This booklet and CD-Rom is aimed at improving communication with disabled children. It was developed to help children who use symbols, pictures or images to communicate. More than 100 children contributed by drawing or commenting on the images.

The pack comprises two videos, "themes" and "perspectives", the latter made up of three case studies. "Themes" features approved adopters speaking about their preparation, the impact of the children on their lives and the ways in which the reality of adoption was removed from their hopes and aspirations. It also includes supporting material, including discussion points for trainers, practice notes and guidance.

This training resource pack aims to meet the needs of trainers in a range of settings. The pack has enough material for a one-day or a series of training events. It includes overheads, case studies, presentations, good practice frameworks and a specimen contact policy. The pack has been piloted with social services departments through the Department of Health funded project Adoption - A Quality Option.
