GPs' treatment of elderly supported

Three-quarters of visitors to Community Care's website say older people are not being inappropriately referred to hospital in their area.

There have been reports of GPs sending older people to hospital because of difficulties accessing community-based services provided by councils' social services departments.

A new report from the British Institute of Human Rights (above) says social care staff are unaware of their responsibilities under the Human Rights Act.
