Concurrent planning provides safety net

Concurrent planning can halve the length of time young children spend in foster care before a permanent placement is agreed, according to a new study from the Thomas Coram Research Unit.

Concurrent planning involves p;roviding intensive support for the child's birth parents while the child stays with foster parents who would become adoptive parents if the former route was unsuccessful.

The majority of looked-after young children are in care for between three and five years before an adoption order is agreed.
