Degree will be run by 52 universities

Fiona Waddington, project manager at the Practice Learning Task Force, has announced that 52 universities will be offering the new social work degree when it begins in September.

Waddington said that some universities had been "very radical" in designing their curriculum while others had "tinkered around the edges".

She told delegates that she expected assessment standards for social work students to be more stringent because the degree had taken into account new occupational standards.

"It is the universities that have the responsibility to make sure that students have the right training, education and practice learning. There is a huge responsibility being placed on the programme providers now," Waddington said.
