Frank advice about drug risks

Posted: 27 May 2003 | Subscribe Online

A new telephone and web-based help line about drugs for young people and their parents and carers has been launched by the government.

“Talk to Frank”, jointly funded by the Home Office and Department of Health, aims to provide young people with credible and reliable information about the risks associated with drugs use. The help line is being advertised nationally on TV, radio, and  in magazines.
Local services including youth workers, drug action teams and primary care trusts are all being asked to “adopt Frank”, which will also be a gateway for information about local treatment services and provide advice and support for adults on how to talk to young people about drugs, according to Department of Health minister Hazel Blears.

Bob Ainsworth from the Home Office said, “Families and carers are often the first to identify a young person in trouble and provide support. This campaign targets them to put an end to the fear and concern they may feel when dealing with the problem alone.”
