Support for young who arrive alone

Baaf Adoption and Fostering is to develop an information and advice service for unaccompanied asylum seeker children and young people in foster care.

It is hoped the three-year project will provide vital support to the 6,000 unaccompanied children that claim asylum each year in the UK. It is to be funded through a £290,000 grant from the Community Fund.

Training will also be provided for social workers and foster carers working with young asylum seekers to help them better understand the difficulties they face.

The project follows a series of reports over the past three years which have shown that unaccompanied children experience high levels of stress dealing with the asylum process.
