Changes to minimum standards welcomed

Changes to the national minimum standards for people providing adult placements have been welcomed.

The requirement that some placements must register with the National Care Standards Commission will be removed for people providing short breaks for 28 days or less and those who have fostered a child for five years who then provide their adult placement.

Sian Lockwood, chairperson of the National Association of Adult Placement Schemes, said: "It is entirely appropriate that the system should be made easier for ex-foster carers and people providing short breaks."

But Lockwood added that the association wanted further amendments that would see adult placement schemes rather than individual adult placement carers regulated. The government will address this in further consultation documents.
