Falkirk admits using hotels for children

Four council properties will be used as emergency accommodation for young people by Falkirk Council, after it admitted it had been forced to house children in hotels due to a lack of places.

The council's social work department said it had used budget hotels for 12 to 14 year olds, whose placements in residential or secure schools had broken down.

Alan Boyd, head of children and families and criminal justice at the council, said the facility would have been used for one night only when the care needs of the child were assessed. Two members of staff were with each child at all times.
