The chief executive of Carers UK has resigned following the board of trustees' decision to restructure the organisation, writes Amy Taylor.
Diana Whitworth is leaving her post at the carer's charity at the end of December after heading the organisation for 4 years.
Her decision came after the trustees decided to make three-full time and three part-time staff redundant, in order to cut expenditure by £300,000 and "do things differently".
Whitworth said: "During the last few months the board of trustees has been considering the future direction of the charity, and has decided on a substantial restructuring.
"In these circumstances I advised trustees of my own plans and offered to stand down immediately," she said.
Imelda Redmond, the organisation's deputy chief executive for the past two-and-a-half years, will take over from Whitworth in January. She has worked for the organisation for around six years, and was previously director of development.
Whitworth will continue with some of her work in the health and social care field such as chairing the external reference group for the national service framework for long term conditions.
