Charities call for youth justice reforms

Nine major charities have called for a fundamental review of the youth justice system.

Despite frequent reforms the system still fails to ensure that the best interest of children are at the heart of any response to their behaviour, and is sucking more children into the criminal justice system at an earlier age, said a spokesperson.

The charities are:  The Children’s Society, one of the nine. The others are Barnardos’, the Children’s Rights Alliance for England, The Howard League for Penal Reform, Nacro, the National Association of Youth Justice, National Children’s Bureau, NCH and NSPCC.
