Most young people still see the government’s Connexions agency as mainly an education, training and employment service rather than a provider of help with personal issues, according to a new study.
The research, commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills from BRMB Social Research, also found that many young people were not clear about the role and purpose of the Connexions service, though most had heard of it through their schools.
Young people who were not at school reported hearing about Connexions through other agencies such as job centres, and some said they had visited a local Connexions office.
Children categorised as priority 1 - those in most need - were more likely than other young people to discuss issues such as bullying, truancy, family problems and health issues with Connexions.
