Social workers are 'too busy to help'

Only one in 10 young people rate social services as good, according to new research.

The survey, part of a study of 2,000 young people's views about services they had contacted for help with emotional or physical problems carried out by young people's charity Get Connected, found that young people described the help they received from non-statutory services, such as telephone helplines, as three times as good as the help they received from social services.

Common criticisms of social services were that everything took too long and that social workers were far too busy. The report concludes by calling for changes to the core hours of social services provision for children and young people.
