Connexions partnerships must develop local strategies for involving the voluntary sector in their work, according to a guidance document launched this week.
The publication, Involving the Voluntary and Community Sector in Connexions, says partnerships that have successfully formed relationships with local agencies will be asked to help spread ‘best practice’ around the country.
The move comes after a survey last year revealed some Connexions partnerships have struggled to work with local voluntary agencies.
The guidance says there are a variety of reasons behind the slow progress including difficulties with local infrastructure. The publication also acknowledges, “we are still going through a period of transition where cultural differences and mistrust between those coming from different backgrounds sometimes frustrates change”.
The strategy for engaging the VCS in Connexions expired at the end of last year. This new document replaces that guidance.
