The first audit of child protection in the NHS in Wales has found that not all staff who came into contact with children had been properly trained, writes Alex Dobson.
Some bodies within the NHS failed to check temporary staff or volunteers with the Criminals Records Bureau, according to the audit carried out by the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI). It said the procedures for vetting staff needed to be tightened up.
The report, 'Protecting Children and Young People', also
found that record-keeping systems needed to be improved.
Welsh assembly health and social services minister Jane Hutt, who
commissioned the audit, said child protection procedures across
Wales needed to be as robust as possible.
