Charity attacks teachers over legal threat to children

Calls by teachers union NASUWT to introduce a policy that will allow teachers to sue  children who falsely accuse them of abuse have been criticised by the NSPCC, writes Sally Gillen.

The children’s charity believes such a move could prevent those at risk from coming forward for fear they will be “punished”.

In a statement it says allegations need to be investigated, whether manifestly false or not, just as they are in situations involving adults in a way that is “thorough, speedy and appropriate” to the case.

Delegates at the union’s annual conference in Wales voted for a change in the law that would allow them to take legal action against under 18s and or their parents whose allegations are false.
