Cash boost for parent helplines

Helplines for parents are to benefit from an extra £6 million from the government over the next two years.

The money, from the Parenting Fund and the Family Support Grant, will go to Parentline Plus, One Parent Families, the Advisory Centre for Education, Children’s Legal Centre and YoungMinds for their telephone support lines.

Parentline Plus is to set up a new database of information and contact details for local services that parents need such as parenting classes and youth services.

All the helplines will have access to the database so parents will be able to get the information they need from one call, said children’s minister Margaret Hodge.
