A year-long independent review will take a “fundamental look” at social work, the Scottish executive announced last month.
Peter Peacock, minister for education and young people, said the review had been established to help “define the future role for social work and social workers” in Scotland.
It will look at the role of social work, leadership and management, quality assurance and how best to deliver services, and whether the current legislative framework is still suitable.
The review will be known as the 21st Century Social Work and “will work with a range of interests including service users and carers, front-line staff, employers and unions, to define social workers’ role and establish how best social work can contribute to modern integrated services,” Peacock said.
The review has been set up as part of the Scottish
executive’s response to the Borders abuse report published in
May.
