Dropped abuse case is cue for probe

Western Isles Council has invited the Social Work Services Inspectorate to look into the authority's involvement with a child abuse case that was recently dropped.

Charges were made against seven men and a woman following dawn raids by social workers and police in a child abuse investigation on the Isle of Lewis last October.

Last week, it emerged that Western Isles Council had begun an evaluation of its procedures.
