Coverage of immunisation against Measles Mumps and Rubella (MMR) fell by another two per cent last year to just four out of five infants, according to the Department of Health.
MMR coverage of children under two in 2003/4 (80 per cent) was well below the 1995/6 peak of 92 per cent, suggesting that public concern about vaccine safety continues, despite reassurances from the Chief Medical Officer.
Levels of vaccination against diphtheria, tetanus and polio (94 per cent) and pertuissis and Hib (93 per cent) were similar to the previous year, but still below the mid-90s peak.
87,000 infants under a year were given BCG vaccinations against tuberculosis last year.
