Schools minister Stephen Twigg joined forces this week with BBC Radio One and the Anti-Bullying Alliance to launch the first ever week of action against bullying in schools.

The Department for Education and Skills will promote special anti-bullying wristbands through a new information film with celebrities - including X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne - reading lines from a poem written by a victim of bullying for broadcast on national TV to show young people they are not alone.

New research from Parentline Plus to coincide with the launch finds that parents of bullies fear they are losing control and are struggling with high stress levels. The charity is calling for anti-bullying policies and work to be based on a whole family approach.
