Professional identities alive and well

There is no indication that multi-agency working in Children’s Fund partnerships has resulted in generic, all-purpose practitioners, according to findings from the National Evaluation of the Children’s Fund.

An interim report states that collaborative working at the front line was based on the different services being clear about what they had to offer.

The report also finds that programme changes made by the government and uncertainty around funding “have had a de-stabilising effect and have been identified as barriers to effective planning and learning.”

In addition, it was found that some people view the Children’s Fund as a source of funding rather than as a “catalyst for change”.
