David Blunkett last night resigned from his post as Home Secretary after an inquiry found his office was involved in “fast-tracking” his ex-lover’s nanny’s application to stay in Britain, writes Clare Jerrom.

Sir Alan Budd discovered a fax and an email were sent from Blunkett’s office to immigration officials discussing the case of Leoncia Casalme who was Kimberly Quinn’s nanny.
Education secretary Charles Clarke will replace Blunkett as Home
Secretary and Ruth Kelly will become the secretary of state for
education.
