Social care leaders from the public and voluntary sectors have joined together to lobby the government on its vision for adult social care, writes Mithran Samuel.
They have set up an interagency group, led by the Association of Directors of Social Services, the Local Government Association and the NHS Confederation and is due to hold its first meeting this month.
The group, which will include a number of charities, will lobby the government on the adult green paper, due for publication next month, and put forward its own proposals for the future of adult services.
A similar coalition was set up to lobby ministers on children’s services, ahead of the publication of the children’s green paper ‘Every Child Matters’ in September 2003.
It successfully persuaded the government to increase the level
of local flexibility in its children’s reforms, embodied in
the Children Act 2004.
