The second phase of the government’s drive to attract more people into the social care profession was launched today by health minister Stephen Ladyman, writes Clare Jerrom.

The television and press advertisements aim to inform the public about what social care professionals do as research has highlighted this as a barrier to recruitment.
“Last year’s campaign attracted over 80,000 enquiries and a recent poll found that people who had seen the advertising were more likely to make enquiries about a career in social care,” said Ladyman.
“Social care work is worthwhile and satisfying, with the flexibility and development opportunities many people are looking for,” he added.
It is hoped the campaign will attract some of the 50,000 social
care workers needed nationally.
