A mother wrongly imprisoned for the murder of her two baby sons has said she will not receive any compensation from the government, writes Mithran Samuel.
Angela Cannings said the Home Office has refused to compensate her for 20 months of wrongful imprisonment, which ended in December 2003 when her conviction was quashed on appeal.
It is understood that the decision is based on the fact that paediatrician Roy Meadow, whose misleading evidence led to Cannings’ conviction, was an independent and not a government witness.
