SOCIAL WORK WITH OLDER PEOPLE
Karin Crawford and Janet Walker, Learning Matters
ISBN 1844450171, £15
Star Rating: 4/5
This is a clearly written and ambitious book that provides social work students with information and skills to enable them to work well with older people. But it could also be useful as an overview for established workers from allied fields working with older people who want to develop better partnership working, writes Les Bright.
It is an "interactive resource" which encourages readers to try out what they have read. The case studies provide opportunities to think about and apply theories, and the frequent summaries of relevant research give pointers towards further reading. Citing websites for further information will ensure that it does not become dated too soon.
Les Bright is an independent consultant and professional adviser to the Relatives and Residents Association.
