Drugs Bill could be dropped

MPs and campaigners have warned that the Drugs Bill could be lost in the run-up to the general election, writes Maria Ahmed.

Dr Brian Iddon, chair of the all-party parliamentary group on drug misuse, predicted it would not be “at the top” of the government’s agenda.

He said that parts of the bill may be incorporated into other Home Office policies following the election.

The charity Drugscope said the bill, which is due for a second reading in the Lords next month, had “served its purpose” as an “electioneering tool”.
