The Education Bill has been given Royal Assent to become the Education Act 2005, writes Clare Jerrom.
The Act takes forward a number of supporting policy developments set out in Every Child Matters and the Department for Education and Skills’ five year strategy.
The key elements of the Act include the reform of schools’ watchdog Ofsted’s inspections.
Changes are focused on promoting greater autonomy and diversity in the education system and on developing enhanced strategic role for local authorities.
