Fears for missing African schoolboys

About 300 African boys went missing from schools in London in three months, according to police figures.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police, who are working on the murder inquiry into the death of "Adam" whose torso was found in the Thames, asked schools in London how many black boys aged between four and seven had disappeared from school between July and September 2001.

Despite an international search the police have only traced two of the missing children.

Head of Baaf Adoption and Fostering Felicity Collier said some of the children were used to claim benefits or exploited as domestic servants, adding the findings demonstrated the need for it to be a legal requirement for private fostering arrangements to be registered.
