Employers should "redouble their efforts" to recruit talented and skilled disabled people Anne McGuire, the work and pensions minister, said today, writes Clare Jerrom.
In her first speech as minister for disabled people, McGuire told the TUC's Disability Conference in London that the time had come for employers and the government to pool their efforts to end exclusion from the workplace for disabled people.
"More employers are realising there's a compelling business case for employing disabled people," she said. "It isn't just an ethical responsibility, it's a business imperative."
The government recently brought in changes to the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 to ensure that no employer can reasonably discriminate against disabled employees or jobseekers.
